As readers of this blog know, from late 2009 to late 2010, I spent a lot of time walking various sections of the Ice Age Trail, camera in hand. I spent most of my hiking time close to home, but also made trips to both terminuses (termini?) of the Ice Age Trail -- to the northwest on the Minnesota border along the Mississippi River near the town of St. Croix Falls, and to the northeast on Wisconsin's “thumb” in Door County.
Additionally, I made forays to the Devils Lake, Dells of the Eau Claire, and Gibraltar Rock Segments. I then released a large book of photography from those forays into the forest and hikes in the hills in late 2010 or early 2011. Due to the large format and number of photographs, though, that book is quite expensive (to print, and to purchase).
Therefore, I have made available a new “scaled down” version of the book, namely "Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail Throughout the Seasons." The images are 5” X 7.5” (as opposed to 7” X 10”) and there are only 30 of them instead of around 100. This makes the new book sort of a “best of” version of the earlier one, and is much less expensive (as noted $16, as opposed to $50-$75).
"Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail Throughout the Seasons" is somewhat like two of the installments of the "Waukesha County Trilogy" I recently released (the two with the subtitle "Throughout the Seasons") however this one (Ice Age Trail) is not a photoetry book - instead of pairing poetry with the photos, I have included "field notes" about the images.
Herein I present my favorite 30 Ice Age Trail images of mine in the chronology that makes the most sense to me – starting with Spring and continuing through Summer, Fall, and finally Winter. Spring, to me, is the true beginning of the year, and Winter the finale.
